3,788 PointsDouble quotes can use variables within them. Single quotes are best if you aren't going to be using variables or plan to concatenate, since the server doesn't have to check for variables inside the script.
For example
<?php
$job = 'web developer';
$message = "I am a $job";
echo $message; // Outputs: I am a web developer
$job = 'web developer';
$message = 'I am a $job';
echo $message; // Outputs: I am a $job
