When I close the Desktop Server app on my mac desktop, I can still see the website that I'm developing locally.

When I close the Desktop Server app on my mac desktop, I can still see the website that I'm developing locally. Is this normal?

With MAMP you had to start the servers in order to see the site. Is there

Hey Sarah,

Depending on how much you've navigated through your site will dictate how much of your site the browser has cached. So, you will be able use the back button in most cases, and like I mentioned, depending on the caching, you may even be able to bounce around in some links.

So, the short answer is "yes" this is probably normal. If you clear your cache and history, then no, you shouldn't be able to move around the page, but will still be able to see the currently loaded page until you open a new page or navigate away from your page.

:)

Hi Jason, Thanks for your speedy response. I reset chrome, (cookies, caches, passwords, hosted app data, content licences) and quit. When I open I can still see the whole site and navigate around it. Is it possible that I have set up incorrectly somehow? I'm almost finished with the site and this is making me nervous (being new to Desktop Server).

Sorry, I misread your original post. I'm actually not familiar at all with Desktop Server, I've only used MAMP, and you are correct in having to start and stop the servers in MAMP.

Zac Gordon is the teacher that talks about Desktop server. You can send an email to help@teamtreehouse.com and ask them to forward your question to Zac. Or, if you are on Twitter, you can try contacting him directly there.

I'm sorry I couldn't be more help. :(
