where is the connection with database?

Sorry, I am a bit lost...But where is the connection with database?

is it when PDO object was created?

If so then I can connect with DB through PDO and also through mysql_connect(...)?

Yes, the connection is created through the PDO object. mysql_connect has been depreciated, and will be removed in future versions of php. Don't use mysql_connect anymore, and if you have used it, change it to PDO.
