Why is textContent in the parameter as a string?

In the video Guil put textContent in the parameter of the function as a string, but textContent is not a string value why does this work?

Can you post the code in question? textContent must be a string value, so I'm not sure how to answer your question.

If a variable contains a string value does that mean you write it in the parameter as a string?

e.g.

Say I have a function that wants to check users' answers to questions:

function answer("userAnswer", "correctAnswer") {
  if(answer.value == correctAnswer.value) {
     userScore += 1;
}

This app is obviously not finished and not what I am trying to make, I just want to know if, if a variable contains a string value do we enter the parameter as a string?

Regardless of what it will hold, a parameter is a name and never enclosed in quotes.

Also, the "correctAnswer" in the example appears to be a reference to an element and not a string.

On the other hand, textContent (not shown in the example) is an element attribute that contains a string.
