Wordpress blog integrated in custom site

Hi all. I'm sure this question has come up lots of times, but I can't see anything in the forum or videos/tracks.

I have my 1-page custom portfolio site up and running. Hosted with webhostingforstudents.com.

On my site I have a blog section. I would like to run only that section with wordpress as part of the site. I want to avoid iframes in order to capitalise on the seo benefits of my blog content.

I've got to grips with the basics of wordpress, but haven't created anything yet. I thought I'd check with you good people first.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Thank you.

Hi Ian,

If you're now familiar with WordPress in general and haven't already done the WordPress Development track I'd recommend working through that. You'll get to grips with customisation of themes, etc. which will come in handy when you make your blog match the design of your website.

I would then follow the steps in How to Make a Website with WordPress from that track to install this in to your blog folder location on your main website.

Hope that helps to give you an idea of how you could approach it :)

Cool, thank you. Before I go ahead and spend the time on it, can you please confirm if what I'm trying to do is achievable? Otherwise, i'll have to take another route.

Is it possible for a wordpress blog to sit between divs in a custom site without the use of iframes?

Thanks again

Ah sorry, misread that as you having a one page website with a page off that for a blog. I have honestly not tried embedding a single section in to an existing website before.

I would probably approach this as a creating custom theme for a one page WordPress website and move the existing website design over to WordPress but there may be an easier way I'm not aware of.

There is a One Page WordPress Site workshop for pro account users that may touch on this, although I haven't worked through this myself so couldn't be 100% sure.

Sorry I couldn't be much help there.

I appreciate your honesty. Thanks very much for your help. I'll leave the question open for now. I've put tons of time into my site and it seems a bit like throwing it all away by putting it all into wordpress no doubt I would loose some of the form and function i've worked hard to achieve and have to pay for themes and plugins etc.

I guess the blog should have been the first thing I thought of, rather than the last.
