Wordpress local install vs 5-min install

I was hoping someone could shed some light on this since I'm finding Wordpress very confusing, okay so there's a quick 5 minute install, and I just did a different install by creating a database? What's the need for the database? And what's the difference between these installs? I'm very confused?

Hi Cesar,

1-Click install

This is an automated process that's built into many host providers control panels as well as local software such as XAMMP and MAMP, the benefit to using this installer is you don't have to create a database manually, enter the details for it and what not but instead just enter a username and password along with setting a couple of options and you're done.

Manual install

The reason you need to create a database is because you WordPress install needs a place to store data and the most common is an MySQL database which is used on a very large amount of servers all around the world, the manual install requires us to have this setup prior to running the installer so we need to ensure we have details such as the database name, database username and the database password.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the awesome answer Chris! So basically with the 1 click install a database is being created by itself?

That's correct, and you're welcome.
