WP cheats? How can you tell which plug-ins work well together?

Is there a way to tell before you install a plugin how well it will work with other plugins and the theme? I heard that not all plugins play well together. Thanks!

In my experience the best well to tell is by how the WP Community has responded to the plugin. Does it have positive reviews? Are there comments about issues with functionality? How many people are using it? When was it last updated? Does it work with the current version of Wordpress?

The majority of current, up to date plugins seem to play nice together. My suggestion is building a list of plugins that you trust and know work from experience. Also keep things simple, don't have multiple plugins attempting to do the job of one plugin. Then when you go to instal new plugins, do them one at a time. If something breaks then you know it is the new plugin.
