Alright, now the prep work is done and
0:00
it's time to start
creating the slide deck.
0:02
I'll show you a Google Slide deck that I
created as a walk through each section.
0:04
For this presentation, I'll be talking
about a project I worked on at Treehouse.
0:11
I was tasked with improving
the recruitment experience for
0:16
the apprenticeship program.
0:18
In a nutshell, Treehouse forms
a partnership with an employer,
0:21
who is interested in hiring apprentices.
0:24
Then we partner with
an organization in that city,
0:27
and they connect us with local
talent who want to work in tech.
0:30
Those who are interested in participating
are directed to a landing page, and
0:34
they submit an interest form to
be considered for the program.
0:39
I'll get into the details later, but
0:43
that's all the back story
you need to know for now.
0:45
All right, let's jump into Google Slides.
0:49
First up is setting the expectations for
the meeting.
0:52
I like to add an agenda that outlines
the structure of the meeting.
0:56
This gives everyone a sense of
what the meeting will cover and
1:00
helps the meeting stay on track.
1:03
Be mindful of time constraints,
1:05
as that will affect how
detailed your deck will be.
1:07
It's okay if you don't know
how your outline will end up,
1:10
I usually tweak it as I
build out the slide deck.
1:13
My design presentations generally
follow this flow, the problem,
1:17
goals, researching the problem, solving
the problem, project plan and feedback.
1:22
Next step is defining
the goal of the meeting,
1:29
what are you hoping to get
out of the presentation?
1:32
In this case, I was getting feedback
from a cross-functional team.
1:35
I wanted to hear ideas and concerns about
my design idea from my coworkers in
1:39
engineering, product and customer support.
1:44
At this point, I recommend letting the
audience know you'd like to hear feedback
1:47
at the end of the meeting, although they
can feel free to ask questions throughout.
1:51
That's it for setting up
the expectations for the meeting.
1:55
In the next video,
I'll get into the project.
